As a system to protect trade mark holders, it allows them to register their trademarks in a centralized database, prior to and during the launch of new gTLDs.
In the new gTLD era, this protection mechanism will be essential for avoiding cibersquatting and bad faith use of registered marks.
The TMCH was launched on 26th March 2013 and is therefore already open for trademark data submission. Registered trademarks will undertake a validation procedure before being registered under criteria already established by the TMCH (Clearinghouse Guidelines).
Once validated, The TMCH will protect brands in two ways: with a Sunrise Service and a Trademark Claims Service.
